Did I make the right decision of getting a Gary Fisher bicycle?

I want a bike that would be nice to ride around the city, beaches, and occasionally trails. I was thinking about getting a Fuji hybrid bike, but the salesman told me that hybrids are for old geezers and road-biker wannabes. He convinced me into getting a Gary Fisher mountain/city bike with road tires. I have only heard of the brand Fuji for bicycles, so I am doubtful that I made a bad decision. Is Gary Fisher a good brand?
