Did Michael Jackson's BAD Press coincide with the time AFTER he fell out with Jehovah witnesses @ Kingdom Hall?

Given that Michael Jackson at the end looked like a Scooby Doo villain hanging around an empty fairground with a plastic face shouting "If it wasn't for those pesky kids!". Actually the bad press sort of came up in the 1990's when his career was going down hill when the allegations occurred. Though his problems with Jehovah witnesses occurred in 1984 when he made the Thriller video and they told him that they were considering excluding Michael from the religion. He decided he would disown "Thriller" if he had to.and he would make a public statement about his sin in an issue of the Witness periodical, Awake! In the spring of 1987 he left the Jehovah witnesses as they were demanding he destroy his work.
