St. Pierre & Miquelon Activities?

I live in central Newfoundland, Canada. My family and I are planning a small trip to St. Pierre (which is just off the coast of Newfoundland) in a couple of weeks and I was look for some suggestions as to some activities and/or sites to visit while there. Also, since it is technically a part of France, do I need a pport? Everyone in my family has one but I do not. I have heard that you do need one but my cousin visited for a short time and said she didn't need one, just a few pieces of identification. I am planning on staying for two nights. Looking for advice from anyone who's been there or knows what their talking about. Thanks in advance and sorry it's kind of specific.
