When did Saturday Night Live stop being funny?

I know it has been declining steadily for many years but there have always been bright spots in the show. I watched it last night and i didnt laugh once. Not even a smile. Even Weekend Update,a vehicle that has helped to launch the careers of so many,was drab and boring. When did SNL lose it's edge? Why did this happen? Who is responsible? Can it ever be good again?
